A superbly written novel offering an intriguing interpretation of one of the world's greatest aviators, the glamorous and mysterious Jean Batten.

Jean Batten became an international icon in the 1930s. A brave, beautiful woman, she made a number of heroic solo flights across the world. The newspapers couldn't get enough of her, yet she suddenly slipped out of view, disappearing to the Caribbean with her mother and dying in obscurity in Majorca, buried in a pauper's grave.

Fiona Kidman's enthralling novel delves into the life of this enigmatic woman, exploring mysteries and crafting a fascinating exploration of early flying, of mothers and daughters and of fame and secrecy.

The Infinite Air (Audible Audio Edition) Fiona Kidman Heather Bolton Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd Books Reviews

A truly engaging book, interesting, human and hard to put down
I read it in German and my daughter in English, we both loved it
The autobiography highlights the skills and determination required to survive as a pioneer aviator. Jean Batten's life was very lonely at times and her anchor was her mother's devotion to her solo attempts and financial struggles.
A woman ahead of her time. She is resourceful but naive in some ways.
Well researched and well written.
Jean Batten is a true kiwi heroine and not enough has ever been made of her feats. This story should be made into a movie. She deserves to be remembered for all she achieved for aviation and for women. Fionna tells her story so well. I love all the books based on NZ history that Fionna has written.
This true story is well written and spun out in interesting detail. While I was visiting New Zealand I thought it appropriate to read a New Zealand story, about Jean Batten, pioneer aviator. The ending was quite sad. After an ambitious life, striving to break records, it was unfortunate that she died in obscurity.
